The flagship of the Retro Series, this is the most ornate instrument we offer in that series, featuring hand inlaid pearl and premium tonewoods.

The D-45E Retro is a flawless reissue of the most elegantly appointed dreadnought Martin offers. This guitar features a back and sides made of solid East Indian rosewood topped with premium solid Sitka spruce for the full sound you'd expect from a well-aged D-45. Ratcheting the bar even higher, the D-45E Retro features a lusciously playable modified low oval profile/Performing Artist taper neck topped with an ebony fingerboard with abalone and pearl snowflake inlays. And the onboard Fishman electronics offer the same tonal qualities when plugged in. Acoustic guitars don't get any better than the D-45E Retro.

The sound of the D-45E Retro is due in large part to the guitar's exquisite solid Sitka spruce top and East Indian rosewood back and sides. Yet the internal braces play a large part in the overall sound as well. To make sure these Retro series guitars sound just like their vintage brethren, Martin resorted to the same forward-shifted scalloped X-bracing used in their vintage counterparts. Rounding out the vintage vibe is the lack of a cutaway, despite these guitars all being equipped with Fishman pickup systems for awesome onstage sound.
